Small cabinet that the Chinese call yaochu, a medicine cabinet. These cabinets have numerous drawers pull-out drawers to store herbs. Descriptions of the herbs would have painted on the front of the drawers or paper labels would have been applied. The hardware used on this cabinet is brass or a metal alloy and mounted with tiny pins. Placement of the hardware was important as to allow the eye to settle on the center of the cabinet rather than try to absorb its entire bulk. This is a rare cabinet due to its size and because it is finished in its original caramel-colored lacquer. The drawer fronts are original but the interiors of the drawers have been re-built.
