DESCRIPTION

Technology has freed us to work anywhere and everywhere. And no matter where you go, you want furniture that looks and feels good. The Setu family provides instant comfort for all sorts of people in all sorts of situations. The Kinematic Spine in Setu chairs bends and flexes with you, while the elastomeric fabric conforms to your contours to keep you comfortable and supported. From chairs to stools to tables, the sophisticated style of Setu fits in everywhere.

From the tip of Setu's polypropylene Kinematic Spine down to the durable alloy base that offers a beautiful finish without the need for toxic coatings, there isn't a molecule we haven't mulled. Honesty in materials is a key component of design at Herman Miller, and Setu firmly holds true to this principle.

There's a height adjustment. That's it. How refreshing! Setu is such a sophisticated chair that it moves and conforms to your body simply by responding to your weight the moment you sit down. It's form and function in harmony, elegantly designed for the way we live and work today.

Designers

studio-7-5.jpg

Burkhard Schmitz, Claudia Plikat, and Carola Zwick began their partnership in 1992. They were looking for the freedom to work on projects that interested them, and for the freedom to do so without bosses or titles.

This is the way they’ve operated ever since. “Everybody does everything,” says Burkhard, speaking for the group that now includes Carola’s brother Roland Zwick. “That’s how we cultivate ideas and maintain our openness and curiosity.”

The group’s name—Studio 7.5—comes from an early idea to rent a 7.5-ton truck, put a model shop in it, and drive from one project site to another. Obviously, freedom of movement is important for these designers. They move freely—and smartly—when designing products for their clients.

The complexity of design problems, Studio 7.5 believes, requires collaboration, and repeated testing of ideas in full-scale models until the most elegant answer emerges.

“You really have to work in three dimensions when designing products,” notes Claudia. “Computer drawings just don’t give you the feel, the touch, the smell.”

They love designing furniture, or as they prefer to call it “equipment,” as in the tools modern workers need for the work they do. They find designing office chairs in particular to be most rewarding, having worked with Herman Miller on the Setu Chair, the award-winning Mirra chair, and its successor, Mirra 2.

Studio 7.5’s penchant for using common materials in new and often innovative ways is evident in these chairs and another of their new designs—Metaform Portfolio. Metaform is a concise set of foundational blocks and add-on people can arrange and rearrange as the needs of individuals and work teams evolve. In all cases, polypropylene is a recurring material; what is unique are the ways Studio 7.5 designs and engineers it to do amazing things.

Studio 7.5 says of their designs, “Both Metaform Portfolio and Mirra 2 empower people by giving them more control over their environment and tools. Our goal is to enable people to assume roles similar to that of a craftsman in his shop, surrounded by what he needs to be most productive.”

Care & Maintenance

With regular care and maintenance, your Herman Miller product will provide many years of superior performance and satisfaction. To maintain quality, please follow the cleaning procedures outlined here.

The instructions for the care and maintenance of Herman Miller products are provided to you as a service. No warranty is implied since results may vary.

H-Alloy Base

For normal cleaning, wash surface with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.

Plastic

For normal cleaning, wash plastic surfaces with a soft cloth soaked in mild detergent and warm water. Rinse thoroughly and dry with a soft cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive kitchen cleaners.

Lyris 2 Suspension Material

For normal cleaning, vacuum material as needed using an upholstery attachment. Vacuuming picks up dust and reduces the need for professional cleaning.
Do not brush fabric or use a vacuum attachment with a rotary brush. Brushing may permanently damage the nap or change the character of the fabric.

To spot-clean fabric, immediately soak up the stain with a soft absorbent cloth. Do not dry the stain completely or it may set. The longer a stain is allowed to remain on a fabric, the more difficult it is to remove.

For water-based stains such as coffee, soft drinks, fruit juices, or milk use a water-based cleaner (specifically made for cleaning fabric) or a solution of mild (alkaline) warm soapy water (not overly soapy) applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Work the cleaner into a lather or foam.
Never use hot water; it will set the stain. Avoid scrubbing.

For oil-based stains such as lipstick, grease, or salad dressing use a dry cleaning solution applied with a damp clean cloth or sponge. Test the cleaning solution on a small, concealed area first. If there is no spotting, ringing, or damage to the fabric or its dyes, apply the cleaning solution to the soiled area with light, quick strokes. Begin at the outside of the stain and work toward the center, being careful not to over-saturate the fabric. K2r is also a product that can be used. See product label for complete instructions.

Do not over apply water or any liquid solution to fabric. Excessive wetting of the fabric with any liquid solution may result in permanent damage to the material.

Do not rub too vigorously or you may damage the nap of the fabric or break fibers.
Several light applications are better than one heavy application.

Soak up all remaining solution and then use another clean cloth or sponge dipped in cool water to remove any residue.

Let fabric dry thoroughly and then vacuum well before using.

If the stain resists cleaning, call a professional cleaner.

If large areas are soiled, contact a professional cleaning firm.
